Our PBJ is one of the 12 Planes of Christmas

BENEFITING: COMMEMORATIVE AIR FORCE
EVENT: 12 Planes of Christmas

THE STORY:

The SoCal Wing’s Navy/Marine B25-PBJ, Semper Fi, is the only flying PBJ in the world.

SoCal Wing obtained this warbird in May of 1993 and after 23 years of meticulous restoration it flew for the first time in May of 2016.

In its debut season, the unit has done a tremendous job of flying the PBJ to air shows, memorial fly overs and other venues for public display of this historic aircraft, in flight and in static display and tours, to carry on the important mission of preserving and bringing to life what our “greatest generation” flew.

The aircraft still needs some items to “finish the job” and present a more accurate display. Practical items such as new windshields, and interior lining, as well as those “finishing touches” such as replica rockets and 50 cal. machine guns.

Your generosity will help us maintain this one of a kind aircraft on its important mission to thrill and educate future generations as well as preserve history.

Spitfire Day

Mark your calendars and plan to attend an event at CAF SoCal facilities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the legendary Spitfire with a presentation on the history and impact of this warbird, the lineage of the CAFSoCal Spitfire mark XIV followed by a “walk-around” tour of the aircraft and a flight demonstration.

The Summer of 1940 was a critical time in the early stages of World War II. Britain stood alone against the German armed forces and Germany had its sight set on the U.K.

Enter this airplane, the Supermarine spitfire. The Spitfire along with its air defense cohort, the Hawker Hurricane, held back the mighty German Luftwaffe in the Battle of Britain, which raged  from July to October of 1940.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the first flight of the Spitfire. One of the most recognized and beloved and iconic aircraft of all time.

Welcome to the commemorative Air Force’s Southern California wing at Camarillo Airport.

On Saturday, October 22 CAF SoCal is hosting an event on  honoring the Spitfire.

Come hear Steve Barber our very own CAFSoCal Hall of Fame member talk about the development of spitfire, the Battle of Britain, and what it’s like to fly this  international treasure.

Ron Fleishman, our Unit Historian will outline the history of CAFSoCal’s own Mark XIV Spitfire, and we’ll conclude the event, weather and maintenance permitting by flying the Spitfire for you.

We’d love to see you on Saturday October 22nd for our Spitfire Event. Come experience living history.

June 12th Model Flying Event

The Black Sheep Squadron of Burbank, CA will hold a model aircraft flying event in our new hangar on June 12, from 1-4 PM.

The event is a contest between club members to build and fly No-Cal (16″ wingspan, profile planes) rubber powered balsa models of the museum’s available aircraft.

BSS models event

The BSS club has a long history and is composed of talented model builders, many of whom are veterans of the military or the aeronautics industry, and just a swell bunch of guys.

You owe it to yourself to come out to the museum, take a tour of our full scale models and then watch these masters at work. You won’t regret it, and it might inspire you (or your youngster) to take up the decidedly low tech, but highly rewarding hobby of model building.

We look forward to seeing our aircraft soar majestically in miniature inside our (cleared) hangar!
